From Residues to Resource: PRODEVAL’s 100th VALOPUR® Unit in Italy at IGOR GORGONZOLA

By PRODEVAL

A Growing International Player in Biomethane

As an international specialist in biogas upgrading and biomethane production, PRODEVAL continues to expand across Europe and beyond, with more than 750 references worldwide. In Italy, this growth is driven by PRODEVAL Italia, with around 150 units in operation by the end of 2026, confirming its position as a key player in the Italian biomethane market.

At the core of this growth is PRODEVAL’s VALOPUR® offering, which now integrates both membrane and PSA technologies, enabling tailored upgrading solutions adapted to a wide range of project configurations.

Symbolic Milestone in Italy

A key milestone of this expansion is the delivery of the 100th VALOPUR® unit in Italy, for the IGOR GORGONZOLA production site. This project illustrates the convergence of industrial performance and circular energy principles within the agri-food sector.

A Circular Model Applied to Dairy Production

IGOR GORGONZOLA, the world’s leading exporter of Gorgonzola, has embarked on an ambitious on-site energy strategy, turning dairy production residues into a valuable resource through biogas upgrading into biomethane for on-site use.

Optimized and Integrated Technical Design

With a capacity of 1,000 Nm³/h, the installation is designed to maximize energy efficiency. The biomethane will be injected into a private network and used directly within the plant, ensuring a high level of on-site energy autonomy and seamless integration with existing energy systems. The system is also engineered to optimize internal energy flows, with heat recovery and process integration enhancing overall performance. The unit has also been designed for full indoor integration within the existing industrial environment, reflecting both site constraints and a strong focus on operational reliability and footprint optimization.

A Concrete Step Towards Industrial Decarbonization

Beyond its technical aspects, the IGOR GORGONZOLA project demonstrates how biogas upgrading can support industrial players in improving energy efficiency, reducing their carbon footprint and strengthening resilience. It stands as a concrete example for the agri-food sector, showing that circular energy models are already delivering measurable results.

With projects like IGOR GORGONZOLA, PRODEVAL continues to demonstrate its ability to transform industrial challenges into sustainable energy opportunities.
