Building a Strong Safety Culture Through Training and Continuous Improvement

By Waga Energy
At Waga Energy, safety is not viewed as a separate component of industrial performance – it is one of its essential foundations. As a company that designs, builds, and operates renewable natural gas (RNG) production units from landfill gas, we work in a technically demanding environment where industrial risks are part of everyday operations. These include flammable and toxic gases, pressurized systems, cryogenic processes, electrical equipment, field interventions, and activities involving multiple contractors. Managing these risks effectively requires more than procedures and equipment; it requires knowledgeable and well-trained people. For Waga Energy, a strong safety culture begins with competence.

To support this vision, the company has developed a comprehensive internal training program designed to strengthen risk management at every level of the organization. From their first days at Waga Energy, new employees follow a structured onboarding program that introduces them to the company’s operations, the principles behind the WAGABOX® technology, the main hazards associated with our activities, and the preventive measures expected on a daily basis. Combining in-person sessions with e-learning modules, this training provides a common safety foundation that helps ensure all employees share the same understanding of risks and responsibilities.
This initial training is only the first step in a broader learning journey. As employees take on specific roles and responsibilities, they receive additional training tailored to their activities. These programs cover subjects such as safety culture, site supervision, operational autonomy, lockout and tagout procedures, inerting operations, and maintenance practices. By aligning training requirements with operational needs, Waga Energy ensures that employees are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform their tasks safely and effectively.

The company’s safety policy reflects this commitment through clear and measurable objectives. One of its priorities is to ensure that 100% of employees concerned complete the training required for the safe execution of their missions. In 2025, this effort is being reinforced through a dedicated training program for employees responsible for operating WAGABOX® units. Beyond classroom learning, this program includes hands-on mentoring directly at industrial facilities, enabling employees to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world conditions under the guidance of experienced colleagues. This combination of theory and practice helps strengthen operational expertise while promoting safe behaviours in the field.
However, safety at Waga Energy cannot be reduced to a catalogue of training modules. A true safety culture is built over time through continuous learning and open communication. It relies on the ability to analyze incidents and near misses, share lessons learned, identify weak signals, and discuss mistakes without hesitation. Every experience becomes an opportunity to improve processes, strengthen awareness, and prevent future risks.
By placing competence, dialogue, and continuous improvement at the heart of its approach, Waga Energy works to ensure that safety remains a shared responsibility across the organization. Driven by the QHSE function and supported by managers and field teams alike, this commitment helps embed safety into everyday practices and reinforces its role as a cornerstone of the company’s industrial culture.
