Beyond the Plant: Aligning Biogas Projects with Community Needs

The European Biogas Association is excited to present the first EBA report addressing the social license to operate for biogas and biomethane plants. Europe is working towards a more sustainable economy, while seeking to remain competitive and become more resilient. Within this context, biogases are becoming increasingly important, but for any project to succeed, it requires local support. This manual offers practical guidance for both project developers and nearby residents on how to build trust, address concerns, and ensure biogas and biomethane plants are well integrated into local communities. Based on expertise from multiple stakeholders involved in the biogases value chain, it demystifies biogases and shows how strong community engagement can lead to lasting partnerships and shared benefits.
This publication was developed by EBA, with the cooperation of the national associations and BiogasWorld.
