Boosting RNG Plant Efficiency with Fournier’s Rotary Press and HPD Digester

By Fournier Industries

Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) producers are under pressure to optimize performance, reduce costs, and recover more value from organic waste.

Fournier Industries meets this challenge with two complementary technologies — the High-Performance Digester (HPD) and the Rotary Press — that together redefine efficiency in anaerobic digestion systems.

Maximizing Biogas Yield with the HPD Digester

The HPD Digester is designed to extract the maximum biomethane potential from every tonne of feedstock.

It operates under a controlled plug-flow regime, ensuring optimal contact between microorganisms and organic matter — without internal mechanical mixing.

Mixing and homogenization are achieved through an impulse pump operating intermittently, creating gentle hydraulic movement that maintains uniform temperature and solids distribution while preserving microbial integrity.

This innovative approach increases volatile solids destruction and methane yield while shortening hydraulic retention time (HRT). The result: smaller digesters, reduced footprint, and lower capital and operating costs, with stable performance even under variable loading.

Efficient Dewatering with the Rotary Press

Downstream, the Fournier Rotary Press provides clean, consistent solid–liquid separation of digestate.

Operating at low speed and pressure, it achieves high dryness with minimal polymer and energy use, offering quiet, compact, and unattended operation.

Its enclosed design produces a clean filtrate for nutrient recovery and a drier cake that lowers hauling and disposal costs.

Integrated Efficiency for a Circular Economy

Together, the HPD Digester and Rotary Press form a synergistic process chain that enhances energy recovery and material valorization:

• Lower energy and chemical consumption cut operating costs.

• Improved digestion and dewatering increase nutrient recovery

• Dewatered solids become marketable soil amendments or fertilizers.

Built for reliability and sustainability, Fournier’s solutions help RNG facilities achieve higher biomethane output, smaller footprints, and lasting performance.
