Odour Treatment in the Biogas Sector

By Van Dyk Recycling Solutions
Tailored Solutions for Biogas Facilities
In the biogas sector, odour treatment solutions must be carefully designed to match each facility’s specific pollutants and conditions.
Factors such as anaerobic or aerobic digestion processes, particle and dust presence, gas concentration, and humidity are crucial in determining the most effective approach. Addressing these variables ensures efficient and sustainable biogas production while minimizing environmental impact.
Managing Odour Challenges in Biogas Production
With extensive experience in biogas facilities, Centriair has developed a deep understanding of the sector’s odour control challenges. Biogas plants handle a variety of inputs, including organic waste, manure, and sludge, all of which can generate strong odours. Our expertise lies in designing solutions for co-digestion plants, though municipal sludge treatment facilities also benefit from our odour control technologies.
Every project starts with a detailed analysis in collaboration with the client. By assessing feedstock types, gas compositions, and output specifications, we develop custom solutions that ensure optimal efficiency & compliance with environmental standards.
Horsens Bioenergi: A Successful Odour Control Implementation
One notable example of our work is the Horsens Bioenergi turnkey facility in Horsens, Denmark, which was produced for Horsens Bioenergi ApS.
Since its commissioning in 2014, this plant has operated with a comprehensive odour management system, preventing complaints and ensuring seamless integration with the local environment.
Since installing our ColdOx system, which was specifically designed to handle the unique composition of gases produced at the site, the facility has maintained a flawless odour control record. The solution is fully expandable, allowing adjustments as gas compositions and flow rates evolve.
It has a capacity of 240,000 tonnes annually, sourced from manure, slaughterhouse and food waste. The biogas utilization of the plant is gas recovery and injection into the natural gas network.
By implementing tailored, high-performance odour treatment solutions, Centriair continues to support the growth of the biogas sector while ensuring environmental responsibility and community acceptance.
