I would say since 2024, the discussions on CO2 capture and use are ongoing. Do you see this market develop further? What are the main trends and any concrete CO2 use examples you can share?

I can see that a lot of our members innovate within making incremental changes to their existing technology to make it more efficient. What do you think about innovations in biogas upgrading in general? Is the technology mature?

I believe we can call the current situation as adjustment period and I personally do not think we will see the numbers we had in 2023-2024 in terms of overall growth.

In 2025, the projects that went online all started in 2023-2024, but we are not tracking a lot of announcements of new projects in development in 2026.

Whether we like it or not, our industry is very dependent of support programs and offtake market, so, I believe, until that is in place, it is very difficult to say what else can be done. What are you thinking?

N2 removal from landfill gas: Technology challenges and opportunities

Activated carbon prices have increased a lot lately. What other options could be used for biogas/biomethane contaminant removal?

What is the critical concentration of h2s and other contamination to produce RNG

Does biogas composition differ from one type of biogas system to another? Landfill vs. agricultural biogas, for example.

What are H2S removal options for a project? Do options differ for different types of systems (landfill, ag biogas, industrial) or are they all created equal?

Scaling is not something the projects think from the start. It is typically a problem that happens during operations and the project will start looking at the solutions then.

David, thank you for these details and the last question: overall for RNG projects, do projects have to reduce oxygen content or typically it comes within norms? Basically, apart from monitoring oxygen, should projects have the technology to reduce it?

In our webinar yesterday, one of the speakers mentioned that there is a new study coming in Europe on biogas emissions plants but the problem with it that the approach is outdated. I have an impression that the lack of proved methodology can be hurtful for biogas industry.

That would be a perfect scenario.

I think the main question here is how much growth is good enough. For now, if we take all Canadian provinces, the Energir’s mandate is the strongest driver of RNG market growth coupled with government support mechanisms (PSPGNR). Now, since 2025, the support program is on hold and we see the direct result – new projects are on hold also.

@nikannf37 So true but at the same time, I would add that any support, even if fragmented, is better than no support at all. If you look at Europe now, the countries that cancelled support mechanisms that worked before see the decline in operational plants.

And yes, Canada is just at the start if this journey with many different opportunities to come.
