Power-CHP VS Biogas upgrading

Biomethane offers more flexibility and higher value, especially for use in transportation and injection into the natural gas grid. While CHP still makes sense in places with steady heat demand or no access to the gas network, the market is moving toward upgrading technologies that use less energy and support broader decarbonization and energy goals. In Canada and across North America, policies like the Clean Fuel Regulations and Low Carbon Fuel Standards are helping drive this shift by providing stronger incentives for renewable gas, making biomethane a more practical and valuable option.

Saeid, you are right, in North America, support programs and policies drive interest to one solution or the other. Do you think is eRIN comes online, electricity production may become more attractive?

Unless you are from a country with abundant amounts of natural gas, biomethane can almost always create more value than biogas.

There are cases where biomethane usage or injection that is not possible but I consider these are exceptions. In my opinion future of biogas is biomethane.

I will agree with the above, in that RNG is showing to be the fuel of choice for biogas projects, with many old CHP projects switching to RNG, which offers more return on investment. However, as you all point out, there are countries where pipeline infrastructure is limited so electricity is the only option for the time being. LNG is another option, for projects close to ports and with the right conditions, but that is a different topic.
