Best process to efficiently digest Paddy Straw is dry fermentation using Plug Flow Reactor. Paddy Straw being one of the most dry feedstock for the anaerobic digestion requires huge amount of water for the wet fermentation. Huge amount of water leads to the high energy requirement for the mixing and heating.

Also, there may be White Rot Fungi in stored paddy straw which is very harmful for the methanogens and in wet CSTR, it can affect adversely.

Thanks Tejas, are there chemical or mechanical pretreatments that are common practice in the digestion of paddy straw to improve digestibility?

Mechanical pre-treatment is the one which I have seen commercially adopted.

Thank you for your insights @Tejas . Do you have any links to articles or maybe reference projects using this approach?

One project in Haryana, India is using Mechanical pre-treatment for the Paddy Straw.

Tejas, does the project use only paddy straw or other feedstock as well? and what are the typical size of a project for such feedstock?
