Job Description
At NPHarvest, we turn engineering into impact. Our Nutrient Catcher technology transforms wastewater into valuable raw materials by recovering up to 90% of nitrogen and phosphorus from liquid waste streams. The result: operators in municipalities, biogas plants, and industry save costs, cut emissions, meet tightening regulations, and even create new revenue streams.
Now we are moving from pilot systems to full industrial-scale solutions – and we need a mechanical engineer who thrives on scaling up real hardware. If you have experience designing equipment assemblies for the wastewater, pulp, chemicals or other process industries with flowing liquids, you will find many familiar challenges here: large-scale process equipment, hydraulics, chemical dosing, reliability, and system integration. This is your opportunity to take that expertise into a fast-growing cleantech field where your designs will have both industrial and environmental impact.
Responsibilities
Your Role
You will take ownership of the mechanical design, development, and upscaling of our hardware assemblies – covering pumps, tanks, pipelines, valves, mixers, and hydraulic components. Your tasks include CAD modelling, sizing, and conceptual layouts, as well as managing external design partners and evaluating supplier solutions.
This role is not just about drawing – it’s about seeing things built. You will be hands-on in commissioning and troubleshooting on-site, making sure that your designs run reliably in industrial conditions. Collaboration is key: you’ll work side-by-side with our industry leading process engineers to ensure smooth system integration and performance. You will report directly to the CTO. Expected travel is about 30–60 days per year.
Starting Phase and Goals
In your first 100 days, you will learn our process and pilot unit of 20 m3/day and develop a concept and layout for a 100 m³/day system together with the team. Within the first year, you will help deliver a successful commissioning and stabilize operations of the 100 m3/day system. Over subsequent years, you will lead mechanical scaling toward 1,000 m³/day and build a repeatable, reliable, cost-effective design.
Job Qualifications
What We Expect From You
- Solid background in mechanical and hydraulic system design, with proven experience of installations and commissioning that worked in practice.
- Experience in designing equipment assemblies for pulp, chemicals, wastewater or similar process industries is considered a strong advantage, as it provides excellent grounding for the scale and complexity of our systems.
- Skilled in CAD modelling and conceptual engineering; able to prepare layouts and preliminary designs.
- Experience overseeing outsourced detailed design and supplier deliverables
- Confidence in leading your own technical work independently and contributing as a self-standing expert in your area
Experience with water/wastewater or chemical process systems is a plus. A relevant engineering degree (M.Sc. / B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or similar) is expected. Fluency in English is required; Finnish is a bonus, but not necessary.
