2026 International Biomass Conference & Expo Surpasses 1,000 Attendees, Demonstrates Continued Industry Growth

Nashville, TN — (April 8, 2026) — The 2026 International Biomass Conference & Expo, produced by Biomass Magazine and organized by BBI International, successfully concluded after three days of in-depth discussions, technology showcases, and high-value networking opportunities. The event, held in Nashville, Tennessee, from March 31 to April 2, brought together a global audience of industry professionals to explore the latest developments across the biomass and bioenergy sectors.

The 2026 conference welcomed more than 1,000 attendees, making it one of the largest events in recent years and continuing a steady upward trajectory in participation. The sold-out expo hall featured 185 exhibitors and booth spaces—marking one of the largest show floors since 2016 and reflecting strong industry engagement. Attendees represented 24 countries, 44 U.S. states and seven Canadian provinces, underscoring the event’s global reach.

More than 200 producers were in attendance, representing a diverse range of sectors including biomass power and heat, pellets, biogas and renewable natural gas (RNG), advanced biofuels, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), biocarbon and biochar, and waste-to-energy.

The event’s growth was reflected not only in attendance, but in the depth and quality of engagement throughout the conference—supported by a world-class expo hall and an acclaimed technical program. This year’s agenda was the most robust to date, featuring 45 panels, 120 speakers and nearly 135 presentations. Industry professionals participated in plenary discussions, technical sessions and expert panels covering key topics affecting the biomass industry. Sessions highlighted advancements in technology and production efficiency, feedstock sourcing and utilization, emissions reduction and regulatory compliance strategies, policy and project finance, and current and emerging market opportunities.

General session keynote speaker Rudi Roeslein, founder of Roeslein Alternative Energy, delivered insights on the intersection of renewable energy development, conservation, and scalable biomass solutions, highlighting the role of integrated systems in advancing both environmental and economic outcomes.

The general session also featured the announcement of the annual Biomass Industry Awards, recognizing outstanding leadership, innovation and contributions across the sector.

Alicia Gibson, PE, principal at Evergreen Engineering Inc., was honoured with the Women in Biomass Award for her leadership and technical contributions to advancing biomass and bioenergy systems. Gibson is widely recognized for bridging engineering expertise with real-world implementation, helping bring complex projects from concept to operation while improving efficiency, reliability and environmental performance. At Evergreen Engineering, she has played a key role in optimizing biomass handling, processing and conversion systems, reducing waste and improving lifecycle sustainability. In addition to her technical work, she is a respected mentor and industry leader, helping elevate engineering standards and inspire the next generation of women in energy.

Rudi Roeslein, founder and board chairman of Roeslein & Associates and Roeslein Renewables, received the Excellence in Bioenergy Award for his decades-long leadership in renewable energy development, conservation and industrial innovation. He founded Roeslein & Associates in 1990, building the firm into a global leader in engineering, procurement and construction, and later established Roeslein Renewables to advance renewable natural gas production and anaerobic digestion technologies. His work has demonstrated how environmental stewardship and economic growth can advance together at scale.

Cold Steppe Inc., led by co-founders Matthew Freniere and Kevin Crow, received the Groundbreaker of the Year Award for its rapid development and deployment of a commercial-scale biomass-to-energy facility in Stuttgart, Arkansas. The facility converts agricultural residues—primarily rice hulls—into renewable energy and durable biochar using continuous pyrolysis, waste heat recovery and an Organic Rankine Cycle system. Completed and commissioned in just 169 days, the project demonstrates a scalable, repeatable model for biomass-to-energy infrastructure and highlights the potential for rapid deployment of carbon-negative technologies.

The session concluded with a biochar and biocarbon roundtable discussion featuring industry leaders from across the value chain. Panellists explored the growing role of biochar in carbon sequestration, soil health, and carbon markets, as well as the commercialization of biocarbon technologies. Discussions also addressed project financing, market development, and the challenges and opportunities associated with scaling production and deployment of carbon-negative solutions.
