CO2 Separator Provides Sustainable Solutions

CO2 Separator Provides Sustainable Solutions Through its Superior Performance
By UBE
UBE Corporation is a Japanese business group with over 125 years of history. It is one of the world’s leading suppliers of gas separation membranes, with more than 35 years of experience in providing high-performance gas separation membranes for many applications.
The UBE CO2 Separator effectively purifies Biogas, converting it into biomethane (CH4) and collecting biogenic CO2.
UBE is constantly updating this technology, and its main advantage is the high resistance to H2S, which allows it to operate up to 30,000ppmv concentrations in inlet gas to membranes without damaging the material.
The outstanding chemical and thermal resistance and great mechanical strength of the UBE polyimide hollow fiber membrane also guarantee a long life.
The excellent permeability and selectivity provide the UBE CO2 Separator with a compact process with low OPEX and CAPEX.
UBE CO2 Separators have been installed in more than 200 biogas upgrading plants for both cases of biogas from anaerobic digesters and landfills in Europe, North and South America, Africa, and Asia. The biogas capacity is from several Nm3/h to over several dozen thousand Nm3/h.
With the experience of the world’s highest capacity of over 32,000 Nm3/h of LFG to RNG plant in the United States, the UBE CO2 Separator, for removal CO2 in this case, has shown that low CAPEX and OPEX can be achieved.
Its superior performance expands the potential of membrane technology, which is conventionally considered suitable for small-scale RNG facilities to large-scale. UBE has decided to expand the polyimide hollow fiber production facilities at its Ube Chemical Factory (Ube-city, Japan) and the module assembling at its Sakai Factory (Osaka, Japan) to meet rapidly growing demand.
As the demand has particularly been for CO2 separation membranes, both expanded facilities are scheduled to go online in the first half of fiscal 2025. This will increase production capacity by about 1.8 times. This expansion of production capacity will enable UBE to catch up with the demand for Biogas upgrading applications globally.
UBE will contribute to developing a sustainable world by expanding its business in the environmental and energy fields by supplying CO2 separation membranes for Biomethane.
