Ivys Announces a Strategic Partnership with Ausime Énergie for a Biomethanisation Project in Quebec
Hébertville, Quebec, January 21, 2025—Ivys Adsorption Inc., an innovative company specializing in biogas gas upgrading, is proud to announce a strategic partnership with Ausime Énergie to support the development of a biomethanization center in Hébertville, Quebec. Once completed, the center will produce renewable natural gas (RNG) for Quebec’s natural gas distribution network.
This project signifies a vital advance in Quebec’s energy transition, merging technological innovation with environmental commitment. The biomethanization project in Hébertville, led by Ausime Énergie, aims to convert organic materials mainly coming from agricultural waste into renewable natural gas, providing a sustainable solution to meet energy demands while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This project aligns with the goals of the Quebec government to substitute 10% of the fossil-based natural gas currently consumed in the province with renewable natural gas (RNG) by 2030. The RNG Ausime Énergie Hébertville project represents nearly 2,000 homes in terms of energy consumption.
The biogas produced at the biomethanization center will be upgraded to RNG using the Biostream by Ivys, a standardized biogas upgrading solution engineered and manufactured in Blainville, Quebec. The Biostream is a fully containerized solution with a scalable configuration built for reliable and consistent RNG production. Cristian Iuhas, Vice President of Innovation at Ivys, remarked, “Energy producers have relied on our PSA systems for biogas upgrading for years, but this will mark our first deployment of the Biostream solution in Quebec. While Ivys has multiple units operating in the U.S., we’re excited that soon we will have operating units closer to where they were developed.”
Pierre-Yves Simard-Aubut, Project Director at Ausime Énergie, stated that biomethane will be produced from agricultural waste and other organic materials at this site. The resulting renewable natural gas (RNG) will be sold to Énergir for distribution through its network. “We aim to process 250,000 tons of organic waste each year at the plant, sourcing from 17 local agricultural producers and 4 industries. This initiative offers a valuable opportunity for producers to add value to their production. They will earn additional revenue by selling their byproducts to Ausime Énergie, and in return, the plant will provide them with digestate, a fertilizing material created during the biomethanization process. Furthermore, the plant will generate around fifteen direct jobs. We chose Ivys as our partner not only for its Biostream product offering, but also for its strong complementary process engineering capabilities, which are essential to the success of any project.”
“This partnership with Ausime Énergie is an exceptional opportunity to actively contribute to a greener energy future in Quebec. At Ivys, we firmly believe that innovation and collaboration are essential to addressing the challenges of the energy transition, and we look forward to engaging further with all stakeholders to enable a circular economy in Quebec,” said Michael Nadeau, Vice President of Finance and Industrial Affairs at Ivys.
