Job Description

The ideal candidate for the Controls Engineer opportunity will work closely with operations for RNG plant upgrades, commissioning, and troubleshooting of plant equipment control systems. The incumbent will also be an integral part of data analysis and reporting on key performance indicators with Ignition. This role reports directly to the Vice President, RNG Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and report data accurately and use it for troubleshooting or enhancing projects. Work with large datasets and clearly communicating findings.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining various control systems for new and existing projects.
  • Writing logic for new projects, diagnosing, and troubleshooting logic, loading programs remotely and via onsite technicians, updating controller firmware, documentation of logic and programs, and other SCADA related projects.
  • Fifty percent travel is required.
  • Candidate must be initiative-taking and be flexible with work hours.

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Position requires substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, as necessary. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer are necessary. Must be able to travel to various project sites to meet client needs. The incumbent must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.

Job Qualifications

  • Three years of Ignition, controls, and/or programming experience.
  • Three years of field instrumentation work.
  • Ignition experience with creating reports, trending, and data gathering/interpreting for troubleshooting.
  • General knowledge of networking and communication protocols, such as Modbus TCP/RS485, Ethernet, BACnet, ControlNet and Device Net.
  • PLC/HMI knowledge and experience with manufacturers such as Red Lion, Emerson, Allen Bradley, Siemens, GE, etc.
  • Experience with IEC 61131 programming standard, structured text, function block and general ladder logic programming.
  • Ability to comprehend engineering drawings and formulate controller logic based on station diagrams and designs.
  • The programmer must be familiar with instruments such as flow, temperature, pressure, etc.
  • Experience with FactoryTalk and Ignition, both in operating and programming/ development.
  • Experience with electrical troubleshooting and theory to include low voltage DC as well as motor controls such as VFDs and soft starters.
  • Automated process control design and function experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or computer science preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
